August 3, 2019

Dear Addison Families,

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! I hope you had a great summer and found time to relax, explore, and/or spend time with loved ones. We did some travel and spent many weekends at softball tournaments for my youngest daughter. It was a great opportunity to observe and appreciate how quickly my own kids are growing in unique and wonderful ways.

Related to the passage of time, I’m especially excited about this school year as my first Addison Kindergarten Class will be entering 5th grade! It’s hard to believe five years have passed since I started at Addison but each year I feel a greater appreciation to have the opportunity to watch our students also grow in distinct and special ways. There are many things to look forward to this year so I hope you’ll join me for the Back to School Coffee on the first day of class to hear the updates.

Please see the below for other important upcoming dates and events as we start the 2019-20 school year:

• August 9: Grade 1-5 Classroom/ Teacher assignments will posted on the side of room 13 at 4pm. Please keep in mind that a lot of time and careful consideration goes into creating balanced classes. This is also a great opportunity to reconnect or meet new families after the long summer and ice cream will be provided by PTA for enrolled Addison students until 6pm! There will also be a Kindergarten Potluck from 4-6pm in the Kindergarten yard.

• August 12: The Kindergarten Screening is scheduled from 8:15am- 12pm. The families of entering Kindergarteners have been mailed their child’s appointed time but feel free to call the office if the information is needed. During this time period, our PTA will also be hosting Addison 101; an opportunity for any new family to learn some of the basics about Addison and ask questions. Kindergarten Classroom/ Teacher assignments will be posted at 4pm. Please note that these classroom assignments will only be finalized if the Kindergarten student participated in the screening and turned in the required Parent and Preschool Teacher input forms.

• August 13: Do you want to learn more about the community events and how to get involved at Addison? Come to the PTA General Meeting from 9-10:30am in the Library!

• August 14: Wednesday is the first day of school for PAUSD students in Grades K-5 (Secondary Schools start on Tuesday). Breakfast will be served for any interested student in room 22 (portable on the field) from 7:45am- 8:10am on the first day and throughout the year. School starts at 8:15am. After dropping off your child, the PTA will host our annual Back to School Coffee from 8:15-9:15am at the lunch tables near Middlefield and Lincoln. At that time, I look forward to welcoming you in person and sharing exciting new initiatives/ programs in the year ahead. Since Wednesday is the District Minimum Day, Grade 1-5 students need to be picked up at 1:15pm. Kindergarten students are dismissed at 12pm until early October.

Please check out our website for other important information including construction plans and updates, calendar of events, staff directory, safe routes to school map and other Addison information at https://addison.pausd.org/.

It is important to note that every year parents are required to update certain information for their children through a process called teh Annual Data Update.  This required process verifies the accuracy of addresses, emergency contacts, and health conditions for students.  The District has informed school sites that failure to complete the Annual Data Update for your child could delay the start date of school for him/her.  We currently have 40% of Addison families that need to complete this before August 14.  If you still need to complete it, an email was sent to you on July 31, 2019 from Registration Services and instructions for completion can be found on the PAUSD website.

Finally, I received another recent district update that the Elementary Schools will align with the Secondary Schools for early dismissal on Friday, August 30. This is not reflected in the District Calendar so please mark your personal calendars; Addison students will be dismissed at 1:15pm.

Thank you again to PTA and PiE for all your support in opening the new school year. The time and funding that these two important parent groups provide enable the unique opportunities and community building that promote student success. I am so honored to continue the journey of teaching and learning with your children and look forward to seeing you soon!
