Principal's Update: 1/27/2019

Tuesday, January 29, 2019 - 8:43am

Dear Addison Families,

We had another busy week as we hit the 100th Day Milestone on Friday! Our primary students had a fun time counting to 100 in groups of 5's and 10's, tally marks, and songs.  Feel free to celebrate this special day with your child(ren) by singing the following tune to "I've Been Working on the Railroad."

Last week, we also conducted our annual Lockdown Drill. The staff prepared the students well and I circulated around the school with the PAPD to check classrooms.  The officers were able to give immediate feedback class by class and we debriefed our school-wide security measures. They said overall, we did a great job and have a few minor next steps related to locks and communication.

Next week, we have two big events for 4th and 5thgraders.  On Wednesday, Jan. 30, 4th grade parents and students are invited to the Walter Hays MP Room to get an overview and ask questions about the overnight field trip to Coloma.  On Friday, Feb. 1, our 5th graders are heading over to the Walter Hays MP Room for their annual Civil Rights Presentation.  The 5th graders have done a wonderful job sharing their learning about the Civil Rights Movement through poems, summaries, and reflections. Some of their pieces will be shared at the event.

On Monday morning, before recess, we will re-open our entire field.  The grass has grown surprisingly quickly and we have re-assessed our sprinkler systems to make sure the new grass is maintained.  This is another good time to please remind families to supervise students if they choose to play outside after dismissal. Also, please ask students tostay out of the Courtyard after school as it can become noisy and we have clubs and meetings in the classrooms.

Thank you for your support!

Fondly,
Amanda Boyce
