Principal's Update: 10/28/2018

Monday, October 29, 2018 - 12:06pm

Hello Addison Families,

After weeks of hard work, our 4th and 5th graders dazzled audiences this past week in the school production of Alice in Wonderland!  Every other year, Addison partners with the Palo Alto Children's Theater to host a show.  We had to be creative this year to identify a "stage" but through a lot of creative thinking and planning, we were able to use the courtyard for this purpose.  The students did a wonderful job and I'm grateful to all the parents who helped support the production. The Kindergarten-5th grade classes have been invited to see Alice in Wonderland on Monday.

Also, we had another successful Addison Auction last weekend.  As you can imagine, it takes a tremendous amount of work to host this event so I just want to thank Sharyn Efimoff and Purvi Kapadia for their countless hours and dedication to build community and raise funds for our PTA.  The staff members also had a great time and we enjoyed socializing outside of school!

On Friday, our English Language Learner (ELL) Specialist, Amanda Gantley, hosted a meeting for parents of children with a primary language other than English. She reviewed the criteria to qualify as an ELL, the supports and services for ELL's, and the assessments given to assess language process. If you have a child that speaks another language and missed this meeting, please contact Ms. Gantley at agantley@pausd.org.

Next week, we will be celebrating Halloween! On Wednesday, Oct. 31, I hope you'll be able to join us for the annual Halloween Breakfast from 7:45-8:15am near the field and play structure.  At approximately 8:30am, the Halloween Parade will begin at room 15. The 5th graders will lead the parade as we make our way to the Kindergarten classes.  After picking up our last class from room 3, all students will walk out to the field for performances and a costume showcase.  There will be a parent viewing area identified with signs and cones on the field so please stay in that area to view the event.

Please keep the hallways and path to the field along the green fence open. Remind your child to leave toy weapons and fake blood at home so all students feel safe on this day.  Finally, if your child does not want to participate in the Halloween activities, please email me asap as we have made special arrangements for non-participation.  Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing you next week!
