Principal's Message, 9/03/17: Dear Addison Families,

Monday, October 16, 2017 - 1:42pm

Thank you for joining us for Back to School Night this past week. If you were unable to attend, the teachers are very willing to schedule a meeting with you to share pertinent information. I also want to let you know that we now have a Spanish speaking liaison, Claudia Quiroga, that works at Addison on Tuesdays from 12:15-4pm, and Thursdays and Fridays from 8am-12pm. If you or someone you know would benefit from this resource, Claudia can be contacted at cquirogacortez@pausd.org.

In my Welcome Letter and Back to School Night speech, I shared our focus areas and programs related to our academic and social/emotional curriculum. If you would like to learn more about our new math program, Bridges, families are invited to a parent education event at the district office on Monday, 9/25, from 5:30-7:30pm. Childcare is available and there will be Spanish and Mandarin translation.  Please RSVP at www.pausd.org

This week, I wanted to share an article that resonated with me: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/meg-conley/we-ask-our-kids-the-same-3-questions-every-night_b_11665530.html.

If your family is like mine, you may find it difficult to connect with one another and discuss the various experiences in our daily lives. If you don't have time to read the article, consider the following "homework assignment" from your Principal. Ask your kids these three questions at the end of each day:

How were you brave today?
How were you kind today?
How did you fail today?

With all the additional pressures and distractions in today's world compared to when we grew up, it's important to teach our kids that kindness matters and that we learn from our mistakes. Happy reading and hope you are having a great long weekend!

Fondly,
Amanda Boyce
Addison Principal
