Principal's Message, 5/5/2019

Monday, May 6, 2019 - 10:03pm

Dear Addison Families,

Time is racing by as we wrap up the 2018-19 school year!  We've had a number of different events and celebrations these past two weeks so I thought it would be fun to share some photos from these exciting events.

Last week, Lesley and Peter Phillips were honored at the PTA Service Awards for their extensive volunteer work at Addison on both PTA and SSC.  They have been in the Addison community for the past twelve years and contributed so many hours and ideas over the years.

This week, I hosted two different events as a result of our Auction- "Principals for the Day" and "Lunch Bunch with the Principal."  Our two Principals for the Day and I toured the construction site and spaces in the new building and the students had a great time interviewing our Project Engineer and Construction Site Superintendent. On Wednesday, I took a group of students to the Peninsula Creamery for lunch and they shared their thoughts about what is working well at Addison and suggestions for improvements. On Saturday, our community came together to celebrate at the May Fete Parade and it was wonderful to see so many smiles and pride. Finally, the Youth Art Show is now taking place at the Palo Alto Art Center where our 2nd and 5th graders have art displayed along with other pieces from a variety of Addison artists.

As we look ahead to next week, we are celebrating Staff Appreciation Week.  Our wonderful PTA plans to host a luncheon on Wednesday and coffee cart on Friday.  It's a great time for us to reflect on our year and celebrate a variety of accomplishments.

We are also very busy planning for next year.  In a previous newsletter, I shared that there was the possibility of dissolving one of our rising 3rd grade classes as our enrollment has dropped in that grade level and our numbers are within ratio for (3) 4th grade classes.  This past week, our Student Registration Office confirmed that we will have (3) 4th grade classes next year so at all grade levels, there will be (3) classes for an overall projected enrollment of 375 students.  We have one teacher retiring this year, Ms. Frates, so besides the retirement, our teaching staff will remain the same in all grade levels.  We will be honoring Ms. Frates on Friday, May 17, at 2:30pm in the Imagination Garden so I hope you'll join us as we wish her well on this next journey.

There are many more exciting events planned for these last few weeks of school so please consider signing up forField Day on Wednesday, May 29, where all students will enjoy the morning playing games outdoors. We need a lot of parent support to make this happen so please consider joining us on this fun-filled day.
