Principal's Message, 5/14/18: Dear Addison Families,

Monday, May 14, 2018 - 11:26am

"May Madness" is in full swing as there is a lot happening around Addison!  This past week, students visited Project Look, Curiodyssey, Adobe Peralta, Jordan MS, dissected a cow eye ball and squid, and participated in Colonial Day and Staff Appreciation Week!  Thank you to our very generous PTA and families for making our staff feel so valued this past week with all the treats, cards, and gifts.

Next week will continue to be busy at Addison. Please note that we have our Site Council Meeting (SSC) next Wednesday, May 16, @ 3pm in the Library. Anyone is welcome to join. Special thanks to Irene Wong and Nishita Kothary  who will be leaving Site Council after two years of service.

At our SSC meeting, new parent representatives will be introduced for 2018-19.  They serve as liaisons between the parent community and school so if there are ever any concerns/ questions/ feedback regarding school issues, feel free to reach out to these parents now and throughout next year and they will share at our SSC meeting:

Heather Noone: heather.noone@gmail.com
Peter Phillips: pkphillips@gmail.com
John Bressler: john@jhbressler.com
Sanjiv Wadhwani: Sanjiv.wadhwani1@gmail.com

At the SSC meeting on Wednesday, and at the meetings next year, we will also focus on our construction project.  A message was sent out earlier this week informing the community that we anticipate starting construction the week after school is out and continuing for the next couple years.  The phases of construction, timelines, and what to anticipate during the 2018-19 school year will be discussed at both the SSC meeting and Principal's Coffee so feel free to attend either event for more information.  We also created a link on our website with information and updates and are gradually adding more content: https://addison.pausd.org/construction

The last Principal's Coffee of the year on Friday, May 18, @ 8:15am in the MP Room.

We will have our New Kinder Information night next Tuesday @ 5pm in the MP Room followed by the final performance from Noon Chorus @ 6:30pm.  Our last PTA meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening and I want to thank our PTA for their time, dedication, and leadership at Addison. This year, the following PTA Board members will be "graduating" so I want to acknowledge them as they have provided many enrichment opportunities for students: Wendie Karel, Jeannet Kiessling, Susie Levine, Cindy Adwere, and Catherine Matterson.

Finally, I wanted to wish moms, caretakers, guardians, and teachers a very Happy Mother's Day and share a sentiment recently shared with me: This weekend is a special time. Mothers all over the United States are being honored. Mothers are caretakers. They are Trojans for Justice. They fight battles in the name of their children. They are advocates for children and have hearts that reach out to bring joy, laughter and comfort. Yet being a "mother" is not just about having children. It is a spirit and dedication to the care of all children.  Thank you for your care of so many of our Addison children!

Fondly,
Amanda Boyce
Addison Principal
