Principal's Message, 4/7/2019

Sunday, April 7, 2019 - 7:35pm

Dear Addison Families,

I hope you had a wonderful Spring Break!  We spent six glorious days in sunny San Diego with friends. I was grateful for the warm weather and outdoor activities.  Upon returning, I spent time gardening and spring cleaning.

It's hard to believe that we're down to the last eight weeks of school. There are so many exciting events ahead!  Our 4th graders leave for Coloma on Wednesday and will have a great time learning about the Gold Rush and other important events and people in CA history.  Also, the Inquiry Fair is this month. Please reference the Inquiry Fair timeline (requirement for 4th and 5th and optional for Kindergarten-2nd grade) to help students stay on track for completing their projects by Friday, April 19.

We begin our CAASPP testing this week. Please reference the grade level schedule.  We would greatly appreciate every effort to encourage 3rd- 5th grade students to attend on these dates. If for some reason your child is absent, we will have a make-up week in May.

I hope you will join me this Friday, April 12th, at the Principal's Coffee in the Library at 8:15am.  Our Superintendent, Dr. Don Austin, will be visiting to share highlights of his first year in PAUSD and answer your questions.  I think you'll appreciate his warm demeanor, transparency, and vision for our District.

As we look ahead to the end of the year events, I'm working closely with our 5th grade team to consider the location and logistics for our annual 5th grade Talent Show and Kickball game.  Our Field Day Committee will also meet soon to plan this special event. As we consider our options to continue our beloved Addison traditions while under construction, I appreciate your flexibility and patience!

As we look ahead to next year, I don't anticipate many staffing changes for 2019-20.  With the exception of Carol Frates, 3rd grade teacher, all other teachers have indicated they will be teaching the same grade levels.  Ms. Frates will be retiring at the end of this year so the PTA and I are planning a celebration in her honor and the details will be shared with the community soon.  Since our current 3rd grade is the "bubble class" (four classes instead of the three at all the other grade levels), I will be working closely with HR as they determine whether we will be hiring a new 4th grade teacher or whether the enrollment numbers are low enough to have three 4th grade classes next year.  As soon as I have more information, I will let you know.

Finally, At the beginning of May, we will start building new classes for 2019-20.  Parents are welcome to give input on their child's learning style so Optional Parent Input Forms are now available in the office and due April 19. Please note that specific teacher requests are not considered.
