Principal's Message, 4/16/18: Dear Addison Families,

Wednesday, April 18, 2018 - 1:29pm

It's Walk and Roll Week! This also coincides with Earth Week so please consider using alternate forms of transportation rather than single car drop off/ pick up.  The benefits include:

  • Promoting an active lifestyle choices for stronger, healthier bodies
  • Decreasing auto congestion and air pollution around our school
  • Building community by walking and biking to school together!

On the same topic, however, I would like to caution families that do drive to PLEASE slow down and arrive early during drop off.  Before Spring Break, there was almost a collision between a vehicle and parent pedestrian.  Supervision and breakfast are provided in the MP room starting at 7:45am so come early! Also there is NO PARKING on Addison Ave. adjacent to the school; this side is used for drop off only (beyond the bus zone) so please do not leave your vehicle.

As the 2017-18 school year winds down, our staff is busily preparing end of the year activities and planning for next year.  I have been working on staffing and want to share anticipated changes for 2018-19. First, Beth Maxwell, 4th grade teacher, will be relocating to Oregon with family. Beth has been an educator for 22 years and teaching at Addison for 16 years.  I am personally very grateful for her service to our community and the support of many students.  Also, the Maxwells have been Addison parents for eight years so they will be missed and we wish them the best during this transition.

For a variety of reasons, there have also been grade level assignment changes in preparation for next year.  As of last week, the anticipated teaching assignments for 2018-19 are as follows:

Kindergarten- Lee Mitchell, Karen Kitayama, Lisa Suyemoto
1st Grade- Kelly Dowd, Monika Hastings, Carol Miller
2nd Grade- Amy Kageyama, Sheila Schweitzer, Laura Wright
3rd Grade- Lynn Beck, Sylvie Cordova, Carol Frates, Shelley Ganschow
4th Grade- Cindy Ando, Katie Bramlett, Jessica Collins
5th Grade- Taline Cox, Nikki Davidson, Desiree Rudd

At the beginning of May, we will start building new classes for 2018-19.  Parents are welcome to give input on their child's learning style so Optional Parent Input Forms are now available in the office and due April 27. Please note that specific teacher requests are not considered.
Finally, in relation to the Addison construction project, the drawings passed review by the Division of State Architect (DSA) which allows us to accept bids on the project.  We are presenting bids to the donor around April 24th and if we are able to secure the funding by the end of the month, our next step is to schedule two presentations at the May Board Meetings to accept the donation and award the contract.  After the Board approves the funding, communication will follow regarding the construction timeline and what to expect at the start of next year as construction would begin this summer.

As you can imagine, it's a very busy but exciting time around Addison!  We look forward to celebrating the end of the year with you .
