Principal's Message, 3/24/2019

Sunday, March 24, 2019 - 6:39pm

Dear Addison Families,

The week started off with a bang (literally!) as we watched the the roof trusses being placed on our new building this past Monday.  As our school wide assembly began in the courtyard on Monday morning, I heard gasps and ahhs, and I quickly realized that the staff and students were not captivated by my announcements but rather the excitement behind me with the large cranes!

Along with the excitement of construction, we are constantly adapting to our ever-changing spaces on campus especially on the playground.  "Spring Fever" has arrived and our teachers and campus supervisors have noticed changes in behaviors outdoors.  Therefore, Playground Guidelines were reviewed in the classrooms this past week.  I will also share Playground Tips of the Week at our school wide assembly to ensure that while students are having fun, they are also being safe and respectful. Please review the 1st-5th Grade Addison Playground Guidelines and/ or Kindergarten Playground Guidelines at home.

Students are starting to prepare for the Inquiry Fair!  The Inquiry Fair is an optional month long project in grades K-3 and a requirement in grades 4-5.  The 4th and 5th grade teachers sent home information this week, and K-3 teachers have the planning book for any student/ family that requests one.

This week students are recording their questions in order to start considering a specific topic. All projects will be displayed for one day only on April 19.
This past Wednesday, our Site Council reviewed the draft 2019-2020 School Plan for Student Achievement(SPSA). Goals include reading, writing, math, and social emotional learning. Our Staff will be finalizing goals on March 27, and a copy of the plan will be kept in the school office after Spring Break if any family would like to review.

Whether your family is traveling or relaxing, I hope everyone has a wonderful Spring Break!

Fondly,
Amanda Boyce
