Principal's Message, 3/13/2016

Monday, March 21, 2016 - 10:28pm

Dear Addison Families,

As I mentioned in an email sent earlier this week, there was cheers and clapping at this past Tuesday's PAUSD Board Meeting as the members voted 5-0 to approve the first installment of a private donation to remodel Addison School:

During the next week, I will be forming an Advisory Committee to flesh out the design of a new MP Room, Library, Administration Building, (4) new classrooms, (3) flex classrooms, and expanded playground. The Advisory Committee will meet approximately twice a month until June to complete the schematic design. There will be opportunities for me to check in with our PTA and School Site Council regarding the progress of our work over the next few months and our team will also plan a Community Meeting in the spring to share the schematic design and take feedback from the greater community.

This year, the district has formed a Gender Spectrum Committee to promote awareness and acceptance for all students.  On Wednesday, the Duveneck staff joined us at Addison for a training to discuss common terms and concepts for understanding and reflecting on the gender spectrum at our schools. As part of the district's initiative, all K-5 students at Addison will have the opportunity to see a play called Oskar and the Countless Costume Changes on March 23. The play allows students to consider gender stereotypes and expression with a strong message of acceptance for all individuals. Teachers have been given pre and post show discussion questions to explore with their class.

Finally, our 3rd-5th grade teachers have confirmed our final CAASPP testing schedule:

It is important for our 3rd-5th grade students to be present and arrive on time on these testing dates. Teachers have been guiding students through practice tests so the format is familiar to them but parents also have the opportunity to preview a practice test at home: and click on "student interface practice and training tests".

Make sure the "guest" boxes are checked and that you enter your child's grade. It is a good idea to practice both the ELA/ Math Practice Tests and ELA/Math Performance Tasks.
