Point Lobos State Reserve
Wednesday, March 1, 2017 - 8:51am

Dear Addison Families, I hope you had a wonderful President's Day Holiday Weekend! I know many of you braved the storm and traveled to different places.

Our family decided to spend a couple days in Carmel and had the pleasure of running in to two other Addison families, the Kapadias and Efimoff/ Rajgopals, at the Point Lobos State Reserve. The kids had a great time exploring and climbing all together and it was fun to spend time together outside of school!

On Thursday, Feb 16th, our teachers spent the day learning about our new reading assessment system that will be used during the 2017-18 school year to monitor reading progress in grades K-5. We also spent time learning about the Next Generation Science Standards and how to create the conditions for inquiry when delivering the science curriculum. Next year, we are still on track to adopt a new math program and then the following year, during 2018-19, it is likely that we will adopt a new science program.

This past Friday marked the end of our second trimester and progress reports will be available on Infinite Campus next Friday, 3/3 @ 4pm. I will send out another email next Friday to remind families how to access the online reports.

Now that we are heading in to the final trimester, the staff and I have been doing a lot of thinking and planning for next year. I'm happy to share that two of our teachers have voluntarily requested a grade level assignment change next year: Sheila Schweitzer will be moving from 1st to 2nd grade and Katie Bramlett will be moving from 4th to 5th grade. Each year, teachers need to change grade levels as we have some grades with three strands and others with four strands. These two teachers are excited for the change and I appreciate their growth mindset. If your children currently have these two teachers, more information will follow regarding assignments for next year and whether they will be given the option to continue with the same teacher.

Finally, I wanted to share some very exciting news... our beloved custodian, Lina Castaneda, got married last Friday! She finally gave me permission to share with our greater community. Lina and Milton had a quiet civil ceremony and she will take next week off in order to move and adjust to married life. Lina will return on March 6th so feel free to offer your kind wishes!
