Principal's Message, 2/24/2019

Sunday, February 24, 2019 - 2:07pm

Dear Addison Families,

I hope you enjoyed the long President's Day Weekend!  We had an engaging Staff Development Day and were grateful for the variety of workshops offered by the District in the morning.  In the afternoon, we highlighted our writing grammar and mechanics standards in K-5 and discussed what and how the standards are being taught at each grade level.  We also enjoyed a team building activity that allowed us to consider our participation on a team and how our emotional intelligence contributes to group dynamics. I am constantly amazed at how open, trusting, and connected our teaching staff is with each other.  We had a lot of fun in our team building activity and a thoughtful conversation regarding our team work.

As you can see in our construction site, the new buildings are taking shape!  There will be ongoing framing through March including the roof and the installation of electrical and plumbing.  After looking at the flat blueprints for many years, it's exciting to see the actual rooms taking shape. The two-story building will house the new Administration Building on the bottom floor and Library on the top floor.  The Project Manager still anticipates a completion date of this building by December 2019. We are hoping to move in to the new building during our next Winter Break. Once the front office and library staff have moved in to the new building, construction will begin in our current Administration/ Library building.  The "shell" of the current building will remain and four new classrooms will be built in the interior. This will allow us to remove the portable classrooms near Middlefield Road.

Due to rain and other unforeseen circumstances, there is a slight delay on the new MP Room which is adjacent to the two-story building.  They are currently building the floors and are now anticipating a completion date of March 2020.

This summer, there are two planned projects in addition to the buildings.  The AKC play structure will be elevated to the same level of the new AKC buildings.  Eventually, the entire surface will be flat and level with the rest of the school buildings.  We are also working on the courtyard and plan to address the drainage problem and upgrade the landscaping.
It's hard to believe that this upcoming week signifies the end of our 2nd trimester on Feb. 27.  Teachers are finishing their mid-year assessments, and progress reports will be available online on March 8 at 1:30pm.  As we look ahead to our last trimester, teachers will be offering Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences, and we will begin CAASPP testing for 3rd-5th graders after Spring Break.  The CAASPP testing schedule will be sent to 3rd-5th grade parents in early March.
