Principal's Message, 12/17/17: Dear Addison Families,

Monday, December 18, 2017 - 9:54pm

This past Friday we had a very energetic and exciting assembly hosted by The Lawrence Hall of Science. Our "Mad Scientist", Randall, guided students through learning about Solids, Liquids, and Gases. Students had a great time mixing a solid and a liquid to create a gas, comparing and contrasting the three principal states of matter, and experimenting with dry ice and liquid nitrogen to observe how some common objects (fruits and vegetables!) behave strangely. Participation and engagement were high... definitely a highlight of the year! Thanks to our PTA for hosting and funding our assemblies.

This is such a wonderful time of year as I've seen many classrooms discussing holiday traditions and things for which we feel grateful. Our Lifeskill in December is Generosity so I wanted to thank our Addison community for a high level of participation in The Giving Tree initiative set up in the front office. I'm looking forward to taking my girls to the warehouse this weekend to wrap the presents and discussing the importance of volunteer work.

Also, thanks to Amy Adams who is once again collecting funds for our crossing guard, Judy.  If you would like to donate, there will be a collection container in the Addison office (cash only please).  If you find it hard to get into the office in person and you have a Paypal account, you can donate directly to Judy's fund via the "friends and family" link:

There is much to look forward to in 2018.  When we return to school on January 8, our 5th graders will be attending Science Camp at Mt. Hermon for two nights.  Also, I hope you'll mark your calendars for the Grades K-2 Ice Skating Party on Feb. 7 and Grades 3-5 Ice Skating Party on Jan. 31 at the Winter Lodge.  It's always a fun event as students, staff, and parents have the opportunity to connect and socialize outside of school.  Also, for our 3rd-5th grade families, we have finalized our CAASPP testing schedule: Addison CAASPP 2018 Schedule. Please reference the calendar and we'd appreciate your support in ensuring attendance on those dates.

Our last day of school is on Thursday, Dec. 21, and all students will be dismissed at 1:15pm.  As the year comes to an end, I want to wish you a wonderful Winter Break, Happy Holidays, and Joyous New Year!
