Principal's Message, 11/13/17: Dear Addison Families,

Monday, November 13, 2017 - 7:50pm

This past Thursday marked the end of our first trimester.  I want to acknowledge the amazing work of our teaching staff for implementing a new math curriculum, continued implementation of readers and writers workshop, responding to the student's social emotional needs and the many other wonderful learning opportunities they provide.  The teachers have taken all these new programs and initiatives in stride and have been stretching themselves to learn and grow from each other. I've said this many times before but every day I am reminded in small ways how fortunate I am to work with such dedicated, committed, and caring professional
With the end of the first trimester comes progress reports (report cards). Progress reports will be published to Infinite Campus on Friday, November 17, at 4pm.  I will send an email that week outlining directions for accessing them online.

I wanted to let you know that Lina, our day custodian, injured her calf last week.  She was on medical leave these past couple weeks and the leave was extended for another three weeks.  Therefore, we have had different substitute custodians who are learning the responsibilities of maintaining a clean and accessible campus throughout the day. If you see or notice anything on campus out of the ordinary, please let the front office know as we work through this custodial transition.

I hope you all had an enjoyable Veteran's Day holiday weekend. On a personal note, some of you may have remembered a few years back when I shared the extraordinary news that my grandmother turned 100! Well this past weekend, we were able to celebrate her 103rd Birthday! She is in great health, reads every day, and is a very special part of my life. Her birthday reminded me of the importance of our family history and traditions especially as we enter in to this holiday season. During these busy times, I hope you are able to slow down, spend time with loved ones and celebrate their lives.

Since this will be the last Principal's Message before our Thanksgiving Break, I also wanted to wish everyone a wonderful holiday.  There are so many things that I feel grateful for including working with 440 unique, spirited, curious, energetic, and thoughtful students. I am thankful for working with committed, innovative, and caring teachers and specialists. I am thankful for our front office staff, custodians, aides, and campus supervisors who work tirelessly "behind the scenes" everyday to make sure the daily operations of the school runs smoothly and the students are supported. I am thankful for the strong parent involvement that helps shape the culture and practices of the school through your support, feedback, insights, and time.

Have a wonderful week and I'll look forward to seeing you on Nov. 27.
