Principal's Message, 10/29/17: Hello Addison families,

Monday, October 30, 2017 - 2:44pm

THANK YOU very much for your participation in our Auction/Fundraiser this past weekend! I have not received the total amount raised but it does appear that we met our goals to fund assemblies, field trips, school supplies and the many other items included in the PTA budget. There were many parents involved in making this event a great success but I want to once again thank the two lead organizers, Sharyn Efimoff and Purvi Kapadia. They put in countless hours to make this event a huge success and are eager to receive your feedback: Most importantly, it was great to see our staff and community join together to talk, laugh, and enjoy each other's company.

This past week, the students also had the opportunity to celebrate Unity Day, a national event designed for the school community to stand together to end bullying by focusing on kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Thanks to our PTA Inclusion Rep., Amy Rosenberg, for leading the lunchtime events. Students wrote special qualities about our school community on orange strips of paper and connected them to make a long chain hanging outside the office.

One of the characteristics I value most about our school is our diversity. We frequently discuss the importance of inclusion, acceptance of everyone, and what it means to be an up-stander. One of the teachers sent me this powerful video regarding the culture of silence that sometimes accompanies bullying:

Finally, I hope you'll join the Halloween fun next Tuesday! Breakfast will be served before school and the Halloween Parade will begin around 8:20am at Room 21 and end at the primary blacktop in front of the office. There will be aspecial performance from our 5th grade class along with the costume category recognition. It will be a great time!

So as we reflect back on the messages of Unity Day and look ahead to Halloween, feel free to share Herman Munster's wisdom with your kids!
