Principal's Message, 10/14/2018

Monday, October 15, 2018 - 2:22pm

Hello Addison Families,

This past week, our Kindergarten students began their full-day program and we're excited to have them on campus for a longer time block!  They began Music and PE and are now able to participate in some lunch activities (check the November calendar). Thanks to the Addison parents who are helping to supervise during lunch.  The students will stay in the Kindergarten yard for the duration of the year due to construction but we are making every effort to bring the Addison spirit and activities to them!

The next three weeks will be busy with various events.  On Oct. 17, Addison will participate in the district-wide Disaster Drill @ 10:45am.  The drill will last approximately forty-five minutes so our staff can practice the necessary tasks and procedures in the case of a natural disaster such as an earthquake.  Students will be supervised by staff members on the field so please note the office and classrooms will be closed between 10:45-11:30am this Wednesday.  If you would like to assist us in practicing student release procedures, please help us by checking out your child(ren) between 10:55-11:15am at the Student Release Center near the Lincoln/ Middlefield gate. Please stay with your child for this short practice and after the drill, your child(ren) can return to class. If you have any concerns or questions related to your child's participation, please feel free to contact me or inform your classroom teacher.

The annual Addison Auction will be held at Lucie Stern on Saturday, Oct. 20, @ 6pm.  This is the most important fundraiser for our PTA to raise money for classroom materials, field trips, school supplies, assemblies, and so much more!  As a staff, we are grateful for all funds raised that directly impact our students and many of us will be joining you at the Auction to show our support.  The theme is "Welcome to the Jungle" and it's a great night to build community and meet new friends. Special thanks to Sush Vij, Sharyn Efimoff and Purvi Kapadia, our PTA Auction Chairs, for all their hard work and hours planning the Auction.

On Oct. 24th, we'll be celebrating Unity Day!  While this event has typically been associated primarily with Bullying Prevention, it's broader goal is to accomplish that by promoting kindness, acceptance and inclusion.  To support this message of kindness, we are encouraging all staff and students to wear orange on Oct. 24. Our PTA Inclusion Rep., Shira Mowlem, also has activities planned for that day.  If you would like to reach out to Shira to ask questions about bullying prevention, inclusion, or special education, you can contact her at shira.mowlem@gmail.com

Finally, on Oct. 31, I hope you'll join us for our Halloween school-wide festivities!  Our wonderful PTA will be hosting a light breakfast and coffee from 7:45am-8:30am on the field along with the regular breakfast we serve from room 21.  After breakfast, we are asking all parents to stand on the field behind the "Parent Viewing" signs and cones.  The Addison students will parade through the hallways picking up each class and then come out to the field for performances and costume category call out around 8:30am. PLEASE keep the corridor in front of the office and blacktop area adjacent to the office OPEN so students can safely walk out to the field.  We look forward to seeing you there and encourage parents to also wear a costume!

Fondly,

Amanda Boyce
