Principal's Update September 12, 2021
Dear Addison Families,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day last weekend. Even though last week was a short week, our staff and students have been busy! Teachers have been focused on administering our beginning of the year math assessments and scoring our beginning of the year writing assessments. We have also begun our Tier 2 reading and math interventions for students needing a little additional support. Results from the beginning of the year assessments and your child(ren)’s overall adjustment to school this year will be shared at parent-teacher conferences in October, however, if there are any concerns, teachers will contact families sooner. Additionally, this upcoming Tuesday, our Intervention Strategy Team (Reading Specialists, ELL Teacher, Special Education Teachers, Psychologist, Principal) will be meeting with K-2nd teaching teams for 1.5 hours each to discuss and collaborate on how to support our struggling readers. We are very fortunate to have a robust Intervention Strategy Team at Addison, but it’s also important to ensure we are aligning student support with the classroom teachers. This same meeting and conversation will take place on September 28 with our 3rd-5th grade teaching teams.
This past Friday, Joy sent out updated information regarding our on-site COVID testing. We are continuing to test any interested student or staff member on Wednesdays. Parent/guardians may pre-register for on-site COVID Testing by completing the link HERE. The registration process has been updated and there is no longer physical paperwork to complete each week prior to the on-site Predicine Testing. The Predicine online form only needs to be completed ONE time. However, families need to complete this Google form each week in order for our teachers and front office staff to know who is participating in the on-site testing and to ensure a smooth process.
This week, I will be hosting our first school-wide student assembly! This was a weekly tradition pre-pandemic but we moved it to monthly this year. The highlights will be discussing our Monthly Lifeskill, CARING, and Project Cornerstone Book, Have You Filled Your Bucket Today? by Carol Mc Cloud. Additionally, we’ll be sharing information about Walk n Roll week in October and a 4th/ 5th grade book club. We’ll end the assembly by teaching and practicing our Addison School Song as many of our students didn’t learn it last year as we took a break from our school-wide assemblies. It will be a fun event to build school-wide community safely in an outdoor venue.
