Principal's Update October 24, 2021

Dear Addison Families,

Anticipation is in the air as we feel the students' excitement as we prepare for Halloween and the end of October. Next Friday, October 29th, students are welcome to dress in costume as we will hold our annual Halloween Parade on campus that includes traditional events including highlighting costume categories and the 5th grade Thriller Dance! If students come in costumes, they must remember to wear a face mask and no toy weapons or gory make-up. We are grateful to Addison parent and photographer Ola Hopper, who has been approved to come onto campus to take photos of our event and share with our greater community, since PAUSD is still not allowing parents on campus.  Additionally, if classrooms hold parties, we are encouraging non-food celebrations as any food brought in is required to meet the National School Lunch Program standards per Ed. Code and PAUSD Administrative Regulations. If your students do not celebrate Halloween, please contact your child(ren)’s teacher and we will find an alternate activity for them.

The end of our first trimester is fast approaching on November 5th. Teachers have been busy holding parent-teacher conferences, so hopefully you’re learning a lot about your child(ren)’s progress this year. Progress reports for the first trimester will be released on November 19th; more information regarding how to access these reports online will be sent at that time. I typically hold a Parent-Principal Coffee at the end of each trimester so I hope you’ll be able to join me on November 5th @ 4pm via Zoom! Please see link below and I’ll send a reminder and agenda via Parent Square:” Principal Coffee Zoom Link

I wanted to introduce our Special Education/Inclusion Parent Representative for the 2021-22 school year, Ella Wilsher. Ella has two children at Addison in 1st and 3rd  grades. We are grateful for her partnership as she will work with both Site Council and PTA through an equity and inclusion lens when considering programs, events, etc. If you have questions about interventions or special education, Ella is happy to serve as a contact for our parent community and can be contacted at ellawilsher@gmail.com

I am looking for a few additional parents who want to get more involved with our school but may not have a lot of time to commit. PiE (Partners in Education) needs volunteers for the Addison PiE Rep Team as we currently without one.

PiE is a very important partner with Addison: it raises funds for staff salaries, allowing for more supportive adults on campus, such as classroom aides. This is especially important this year as we welcome back more students on campus after school closure due to COVID.

PiE’s volunteer program allows for short time commitments and off-campus tasks in addition to some on-campus activities, and is most active from August-November. PiE also provides training for its volunteers and all the tools and resources they will need to be successful.

WHAT DOES PIE FUND AT ADDISON?

PiE funds important people who interact with our students on a daily basis, including:

  • General classroom aides
  • Bill the Science Guy from the Junior Museum and Zoo
  • Spectra art
  • Counseling support
  • Music
  • K-3 dance

I hope you will consider this important opportunity to represent Addison and help our entire school community. If you are interested in learning more, please email PiE at addison@papie.org for more details. Thank you!

Fondly,

Amanda Boyce
