Principal's Update May 1, 2022

Dear Addison Families,

Students are exhibiting a lot of enthusiasm as May approaches and we prepare for many exciting end-of-the-year events! Thanks to our Kindergarten parent, Nik Ajagu, for coming to Addison at recess and lunch this past week to guide our students through a fun art activity in preparation for our May Fete Parade.  Addison School will be participating in the Parade on May 7th so hope your child can join us in marching!  We will be meeting behind Pizza My Heart around 9:30am. When the parade concludes, join us at Addison School from 11am-1pm for a Family Picnic/ Open House/ Farewell Party at Addison.  Current and alumni families are welcome to walk through our new buildings. Additionally, Joy, Nancy, and I will all be in attendance and would love if you could join us for this community event so we can share our thanks and make a personal connection before the office transition next year.

Staff/ Teacher Appreciation is this week so it’s a great time to ask your child to make a card or create a simple art project to share with staff who have supported them this year. I am grateful each day for the commitment and creativity of all our staff members who come together to provide the best opportunities for students. Thank you to our amazing PTA members who are hosting a special luncheon for staff this upcoming Wednesday.

CAASPP Testing has begun for our 3rd-5th graders. If you missed the CAASPP schedule in our prior newsletters, it can be found here. We don’t ask students to study or prepare for the assessment as the test offers a great snapshot of the skills where students and site have strengths or areas to for growth.  We just ask that students are well rested and ready to give their best effort!

I’m happy to share that Jeff Downing, new Addison Principal, and I have filled the open Kindergarten position next year! Athena Foley is currently a teacher at Palo Verde School who applied for a transfer.   She is enthusiastic, bilingual in English and Spanish and has experience teaching Kindergarten in diverse school communities. Athena quickly establishes rapport with students, families, and colleagues and has a strong work ethic. Additionally, she is a certified Zumba Kids instructor and offered to start a weekly lunchtime Zumba class next year! Mr. Downing and I are continuing to interview for our open 3rd grade teaching position and are reviewing applications for the open Secretary and Clerk roles. As those positions are filled, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
