Principal's Update March 27, 2022

Dear Addison Families,

Many staff members and families felt a deep sense of hope, joy, and appreciation this past week as we were able to bring back parents on campus to support and enjoy two beloved events. On Tuesday, through a partnership with the City of Palo Alto, we held a Bike Rodeo for our 3rd and 4th graders. This is traditionally a 3rd grade event for students to bring their bikes or scooters on campus and learn bike safety skills. Since the 4th graders did not have this opportunity last year, we ran the activity before recess for 3rd grade and after recess for 4th grade. In order to make this event possible, we needed strong collaboration among our parents, 3rd and 4th grade teaching teams, and various individuals from the City. It’s these partnerships that enrich the lives and opportunities of our students so we were all grateful for this special day!

On Thursday, our 5th graders shared their Famous American “Wax Museum” presentations for families.  Panels of historic Americans who changed our world were assembled in the three 5th grade classrooms as students dressed up and made living history presentations. They have been working hard on this project for weeks and thoroughly entertained us, taking a step back in history to learn about and honor some influential Americans.

These are just a couple of the great events that are taking place at Addison before the end of the year. I’ve also been working closely with our teachers planning our additional spring school activities which include the Inquiry Fair, “Bump it Up” Day, 5th Grade Talent Show, Library Night, Field Day, and Promotion. More information will be shared regarding these wonderful Addison traditions. Additionally, our PTA is planning a K-2 and 3-5 Movie Night, Heritage Night, and participation in the City of Palo Alto May Fête Parade with an Addison Open House following the Parade so current and alumni families can finally see our new buildings!  I have no doubt the end of the 2021-22 school year will be amazing and I’m looking forward to enjoying these events with you.

We also have Spring Break April 4-8th. Please mark your calendar as this Friday, April 1st, is a minimum day so all students are dismissed at 1:15pm. After Spring Break, parents are invited back on campus for drop off and pick up! (Note that the entire district will celebrate Walk & Roll Week after we return from Spring Break, so it is a good time to re-visit our beautiful campus, on foot/scooter/bike!) Addison has always been a very active community hub in the morning so feel free to join your child for free breakfast in the MP room, play a game of four square or wall ball using the outdoor equipment provided, or walk your child(ren) to class as they start their day. After school, the campus will re-open after our last dismissal at 2:45pm when families are welcome to come back on campus and enjoy our outdoor spaces. I hope your families and child(ren) have a wonderful break; stay safe!

Fondly,

Amanda Boyce
