Principal's Update- March 18, 2021
Dear Addison Families,
As we launch in to the third trimester, there are many things we are planning for the end of the school year. The release of progress reports last Friday allowed teachers to communicate the academic and social emotional progress of your child(ren) and set goals with students from now until the end of the year. If you have not reviewed your child(ren)’s second trimester progress report yet, please spend time reading and discussing it with them and asking for their reflection on the comments and markings.
We are also preparing for state testing. Whether your student is learning in a distance or hybrid model, PAUSD students in grades 3-8, 10, and 11 will participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) this spring. Students in hybrid will take the test on the days that they are in school and full distance learners will take it at home. A separate letter will be sent to our full distance families regarding the steps we need to take to prepare for this test and how to access a student’s secure log in information.
I have received questions regarding how we are planning for the 5th grade Promotion, whether more classes will return to five day per week instruction this year, and if it’s possible to eliminate the play zones outside so students have free access on the playground and field. All of the answers to these questions are still unknown as there is the possibility that we move to the Orange Tier in the near future which could impact county and state safety guidelines. It’s safe to say that this year has been characterized by uncertainty as PAUSD continues to adapt to the changing guidelines. If there are any significant updates that impact PAUSD instruction or the possibilities of Promotion, I will be sure to update our community.
In conjunction with planning for end of the year activities, I am thinking ahead to next year which includes an analysis of enrollment, staffing, and budgets. On March 29, I will be meeting with the various District departments to discuss these three areas along with other general information as we prepare for the 2021-22 school year. I plan to host a K-5 Principal’s Coffee on Thursday, April 1 @ 5pm to share updates related to this year and next so I hope you’ll be able to join me. Please see invitation below:
