Principal's Update - June 2, 2020
Dear Addison Families,
I felt it important to send my weekly Newsletter early this week as I hope you are all doing well despite the heavy feelings you may be experiencing as a result of the current events across our country. George Floyd in Minnesota, Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, and Breonna Taylor in Kentucky are just the recent examples of the unjustified taking of life from our black and brown communities.
I want to acknowledge that our student community may be looking to teachers, friends, and family members for support and reassurance. As a school we can't predict what students have seen, heard or read about over these past few days. But the topic of what happened in Minneapolis and the subsequent nation-wide demonstrations could spark discussions of race and injustice among students this week. Attached is a USA Today article, plus some website links in hopes of supporting you when and if you talk to your child about this topic.

Framing Brave Conversations About Race and Ethnicity
We must denounce all forms of racism, discrimination and social injustice. All people must be valued for their inherent humanity and treated ethically. As students, families, teachers, and staff, we must commit ourselves to ensure that this is the policy of all public institutions and those holding power.
This message serves as a commitment to our continued efforts towards creating and nurturing a school climate in which all students feel safe, understood and welcome. It is our responsibility to come together and leverage our strengths to end all forms of racism, discrimination and social injustice.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our students, our school and our community. I will be holding my final Principal's Coffee on Wednesday morning at 9am if you would like to join and weigh in or ask other questions related to school:

Additionally, I will send out a final school-wide message on Friday morning with directions for accessing your child's end of the year progress report and videos from our Staff, 5th grade Talent Show, and 5th grade Promotion. Separate invitations were sent to 5th grade families regarding the live viewing of the Talent Show tomorrow @ 4pm and Promotion on Thursday @ 9am. Hope you are doing well despite these uncertain times.
