Welcome Letter 2014 - 15

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the last couple weeks of summer vacation. I have been busily preparing for the new year and am very excited to be joining the Addison community. I’ve been working closely with the district, staff, and PTA to learn about the culture, events, and practices of this dynamic community and I look forward to a great year!

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 19th. After dropping off your child on the first day of school, the PTA will host our annual Back to School Coffee from 8:15-9:15am on the blacktop. Please see below for important events happening on Aug. 15, prior to the first day of school:

  • For new families in grades 1-5, PTA will be hosting a New Family Campus Tour on Friday, August 15th from 3:30-4pm. Please meet in front of the MP Room.
  • For ALL families, please plan on picking up your Back to School Packet on August 15th between 4-6:30pm in the MP Room. Classroom/ teacher assignments will be included in the packet.
  • Our Kindergarten Potluck will be held on the Kindergarten playground from 5-7pm on August 15th. Kindergarten families will have the opportunity to tour the campus during the potluck through a fun treasure hunt activity!
  • Classroom assignments will also be posted on the classroom doors along with the packets. Please keep in mind that a lot of time and careful consideration goes into creating balanced classes.

As new parents, you'll want to attend Addison 101 on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 7:00-9:00pm, where you'll learn everything you need to know to make your first year at Addison a success. The first few weeks at school can feel overwhelming, so you’ll receive a separate list of important dates and reminders in your Back to School packet. You can also view and download the entire school calendar at www.addison.pausd.org/calendar.

  • Back to School Night will be held on Monday, August 25th. More information will be sent home once school starts, but we normally begin at 6 PM.
  • Individual Pictures will be taken for 5th graders on Monday, August 25th and K - 4th grades on Tuesday, August 26th. If purchasing pictures please make sure to pay online or bring funds the day of your student’s individual picture. All class pictures are taken Monday, August 25th.
  • School schedule- School starts promptly at 8:15 AM for all students. There is no adult supervision until 8:05 AM, so make sure to stay with your child if you drop him or her off before then. 1st-3rd grade students are dismissed at 2:20 PM every day except Wednesday, with a 1:15 PM dismissal. 4th & 5th grade students are dismissed at 2:45 PM every day except Wednesday, with a 1:15 PM dismissal. The kindergarteners start at 8:15 AM and are dismissed at 12 PM each day until October 13th, when their dismissal schedule changes.
  • A warm welcome goes out to our new and returning staff members: Nikki Davidson will be teaching 5th grade and Jan Nash-Arrigo is returning to Addison to teach one day a week in 2nd grade (with Sylvie Cordova) and one day a week in 4th grade (with Katie Bramlett). Katie Bramlett has been hired to support teachers with instructional technology one day per week. Sarah Newman is joining our staff and will be teaching one day a week in 2nd grade (with Lynn Beck). We are also welcoming Nancy Panayides as our new secretary. Rita Rodriguez will be joining our staff as our psychologist. Anita Fiedel will be working alongside our Kindergarten students as an instructional aide.
  • Addison Kids’ Club provides a child care option on site. AKC is open from after school to 6 PM. Contact Wendy Miller at 650-856-3874 or akc@paccc.org for more information.

Addison would not be the excellent school it is without the support of PiE (Partners in Education) and the PTA. PiE provides the school with funding for instructional assistants, a science specialist, and an art teacher. PTA supports teachers and the school community as a whole. I encourage you to be involved in your child’s education by joining the PTA or contacting your child’s teacher for volunteer opportunities.
