Addison Principal's Message

Dear Addison,

This past week our 5th graders attended Science Camp at Camp Campbell for the first time.

They reported having a great time and were very eager to share the details of the night hike! Thank you to our 5th grade teachers for spending two days and one night learning science outdoors with our students.

This week we all have the opportunity to show our gratitude to teachers and support staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! As the year comes to an end, I have been reflecting on their hard work and commitment to students. This year, they participated in a number of trainings related to math in order to better understand how to create lessons that support the (8) standards of math practice. They also continued to explore how to support our students' social/emotional growth through ensuring that all students in grades 1-5 have (4) trusted adults on campus to share concerns or celebrations. I am always amazed at the tremendous talent of our staff and the fact that they are so willing to share their strengths and ideas with their colleagues and take various leadership roles. I feel so blessed to work at such an amazing school!

As we look ahead to next year, I'm happy to share that we have filled our open 4th grade position. Taline Cox was hired and is very excited to be rejoining our staff. Ms. Cox worked here last year in all four of our 5th grade classes as a teacher's aide. The staff all commented on her natural talents as a teacher and connecting with students. Ms. Cox is a graduate from Gunn High School and very familiar with the Palo Alto community. She has spent the last year completing the nationally renowned Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) while student teaching in
kindergarten and most recently, 4th grade at Barron Park.

We also hired a new English Language Learner (ELL) and Intervention teacher for 2017-18. Amanda Gantley, our new ELL Teacher, worked as a District Math Teacher this past year and before that taught upper elementary for 14 years at L.M. Nixon Elementary. Alison Bolos will be our new Intervention Teacher and has been teaching in PAUSD for 11 years at Walter Hays. She has taught 2nd grade, kindergarten, and 4th grade.  She has a Masters in Literacy as well as her Reading Specialist Credential from San Jose State University.

Finally, I want to thank Heather Noone for joining our 2017-18 School Site Council (SSC) as a parent member. Heather currently has a daughter in Kindergarten in
room 1. She will be joining other SSC parent representatives, Peter Phillips, Irene Wong, and Nishita Kothary. We will have our last meeting off campus on Tuesday May 9 @ 3pm. If you are interested in attending, please email me.

Fondly,

Amanda Boyce
