Principal's Message, 3/26/2017

Friday, March 31, 2017 - 1:17pm

Dear Addison Families, We had an exciting week that started with two students supporting me as Principals for the Day on Monday. Through the Addison Auction, Caitlyn Pand Josie McC helped run the school-wide assembly and visited classrooms with me to discuss observations regarding teaching and learning. Both said they are now interested in becoming Principals so you may see these two faces return to Addison again someday!

I'd like to invite all families to join me for the Principal's Coffee on Friday, March 31. At the beginning of the session, meet your School Psychologist, Rita Rodriguez, and learn more about Mindfulness practices and how we utilize these practices to improve wellness and learning here at Addison.  You'll hear about practices you can do at home as a family that will benefit the whole family - reducing stress and having fun as a family. The second part of the Coffee will be open for Q & A; we can create an agenda of topics to explore together.

After Spring Break, we will be busily planning for the 2017-18 school year. Optional Parent Input Forms regarding class placement are now available in the front office and will be due Wednesday, April 12. The teachers and I will work closely to make class assignments. Decisions we make with regard to your child's future placement reflect our best judgment as to where children will be the most successful in a balanced class.  While we do not accept requests for specific teachers, you are welcome to share with us any information you feel would be helpful in determining your child's placement.

Finally, I wanted to share some bittersweet news that our 4th grade teacher, Christie Price, has decided to retire at the end of this year. Christie has worked in PAUSD for the past 20 years as a classroom aide and teacher and has brought a lot of positive energy to Addison School. She is looking forward to spending more time with family and may return to Addison on occasion as a substitute teacher. We wish her the best during this life transition!

Fondly,
Amanda Boyce
